The 1950-51 Steelers were the last NFL team to run the single wing as its base offense.  The single wing did not use a quarterback in the modern sense of the word.
Steelers coach Buddy Parker: “I don’t think [Layne] should be subjected to the abuse of the [Pittsburgh] fans.  Bobby doesn’t play as well at home as he does away.  The booing has affected his play.”
Terry Bradshaw, on the Steelers’ frequent changes at quarterback: “This is no way to operate a pro football team.”
Backup Cliff Stoudt broke his right arm after the Week 10 game testing his strength on a mechanical punching bag in a bar.
It was probably not a coincidence that the Steelers would have had to trade their 1986 3rd rounder to the Dolphins had Woodley played 50% of the snaps in the 1985 season.
Hodges was benched midway through the Week 16 game for ineffectiveness, but Rudolph injured his left shoulder, forcing the Steelers to put Hodges back in.
